Coming home!

I’ve just heard that I’ve been awarded a grant from the Royal Society of Chemistry to fund a trip back to the UK at the end of this month!

It’s a “Journals Grant for International Authors“, which is aimed at enabling international collaboration between scientists and the exchange of specialist expertise and training. The purpose of my trip is to perform an experiment at the Diamond Light Source synchrotron in Oxfordshire with Richard Walton, from Warwick University. We’re going to be investigating the formation behaviour of certain coordination polymers by using in-situ” X-ray diffraction. This should give us insight into what chemical reactions go on as the material is made, how quickly they happen, and how different conditions (temperatures, solvents etc.) affect the crystallization process. In the end, this could lead to the ability to tailor-make new materials that have useful properties but can’t be synthesized under normal conditions…
